For the most part, peace is restored at "Small Wonders". It's taken about 6 weeks, but all the horses are living in an agreed harmony. Presently Zooey is at the top, quickly followed by Velvet, then Bella, Buck, Maya, and last but not least, Janie. Even better than that, Janie is starting to assert herself a little at the feeder, which is a huge sense of relief to me. I always worry that she doesn't get enough to eat. We've developed a little secret between ourselves. Sometime throughout the day, when all the horses are grazing together, Janie will make her way over to the barn, alone. This is my cue to go meet her there, for a quick snack of grain. We've been doing this now secretly for about a month. It's so sweet it's crazy. I love this mare to death. Even though she is lame, the fact that she feels good about herself, and her life, is such a reward. The other day she was actually playing in the field, and I saw her try and buck she was feeling so good. I nearly cried!
Life is good....
